The English writer Jane Austen co-founded the novel genre and moved millions of people with her romantic stories. Her home village has been celebrating her for 75 years. A visit during their annual ‘Dress Up Day’.

Sophie Andrews has to smile when she notices passers-by whose eyes wander over the stone wall of the cottage into the garden. When they initially only glance at her group on the picnic blanket, but then their heads shoot back again. A group of friends are sitting here in Regency style with Empire dresses and tailcoats, straw bonnets and top hats, gloves and raffia baskets. ‘Not an everyday sight, is it?’
