The new Wuthering Heights film, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, is full of passion. The landscape in the background couldn’t be more idyllic. An exploration.

Sharp and strikingly slender for its height, the chimney of the Old Gang Smelting Mill soars skywards, standing out starkly against the ice-blue winter sky, and Sean Whittle rubs his hands together. The wind blows fiercely here.
But Sean smiles. Eleven months ago, he took cover here – he points to the stone wall – to avoid being caught on camera. It was a surprisingly mild March day, recalls the Yorkshire Dale guide. But then, it’s not every day that you find yourself standing less than three metres from Margot Robbie, having to make sure no actor tumbles into the river, and getting to watch a global hit being made.
